DESCRIPTION AKA Leaf-nosed bat. This bat has a wingspan of up tp 21cms with large ears and a horse-shoe shaped nose leaf. Widely distributed with large populations throughout South East Asia from India to China to Thailand and Malaysia.This species can be found in colonies of up to 50,000 individuals. Roosts include mainly within caves. Its flight is fast due to its long narrow wings and feeds mainly on insects.
Non threatened species.

This is a real skeleton of a Short-nosed fruit bat. Just like birds, bat skeletons have light and reduced number of bones compared to the land vertebrate, which allows them to be powerful flyers. Once they find their landing spot they will use their shorter curved thumb to climb or walk on the ground. Have you ever wondered why do bats roost upside down? One of the main reasons is to put them in an ideal position for takeoff. Unlike birds, bats can't launch themselves into the air from the ground. Their wings don't produce enough lift to take off from a dead stop, and their hind legs are so small and underdeveloped that they can't run to build up the necessary takeoff speed. Instead, they use their front claws to climb to a high spot and then fall into flight. By sleeping upside down in a high location, they are all set to launch if they need to escape the roost. Its a beautiful item and a great way to admire skeletal anatomy.

DESCRIPTION AKA Dagger-toothed Long-nosed Fruit Bat. This orange headed bat has a wingspan of 20-21cms and can be found in Northern Australia. It is found in both primary and secondary tropical moist forest, it has also been reported from paperbark woodlands, mangroves, swamp forest, plantations, rural gardens and urban areas. It usually roosts as single animals, or in small groups, under large leaves (such as palm fronds), under branches and loose bark, in bamboo or in abandoned buildings. The females give birth to a single young three times per year. Wild populations are numerous and this bat is a common widespread species.

DESCRIPTION AKA Lesser Bamboo Bat, Club-footed Bat, Flat-headed Bat, Lesser Flat-headed Bat. This species is relatively widespread, not uncommon, is tolerant of a range of habitats and there are no known major threats. They have a flattened head with a short snout and triangular ears. It is a small dark brown bat with wing spread measuring around 17cm. The bats are insectivorous, with flies, beetles and wasps which they catch on the wing, using echolocation.
